Canvas and Hooves was born from a deep passion for horses and a heartfelt desire to create meaningful connections for the older generation. In the UK, social opportunities can be limited — not just for young people but even more so for those who are older. Many find themselves with free time but no one to share it with, leading to feelings of loneliness and a loss of purpose.
Horses have been deeply woven into British heritage and culture for centuries. From the iconic shire horses that powered agriculture to the grandeur of royal equestrian traditions, they have played an essential role in shaping the nation. Even today, equestrian life remains an integral part of the countryside, from working farms to leisure riding and racing.
At the same time, equestrian farms face their own challenges. Maintaining horses is expensive, and many farms struggle to sustain their upkeep. As these farms quietly carry on the traditions of Britain’s equestrian legacy, they often go unnoticed and unsupported. We saw an opportunity to merge these issues into a single, creative solution—one that benefits both people and horses.
Through Canvas and Hooves, we not only aim to bring artistic inspiration and social engagement to the older generation, but also to honor and sustain the UK’s rich equestrian heritage. By inviting people to interact with horses in a creative and meaningful way, we help keep this cultural connection alive while supporting the farms that uphold these traditions.
